Amphibious Bamboo House
Project type: Flood Resistant House (Academic)
Location: Sindh, Pakistan
Year: 2022
Current environmental conditions and concerns have added disaster resilient construction into futuristic building style. Buildings which safeguard its users into both pre and post disastrous conditions by dealing with different intensities of disaster. With all these, sustainability is also a major concern and this project is catering to all futuristic as well as current era requirements.
Climate crises have brought us to alarming situations where we are surrounded by various disasters. Flood is one of them and Pakistan has faced by Pakistan in 2022 when 1/3 of the country got flooded. Now we are in desperate need to design buildings according to future predictions which inform us that floods on larger scale are being expected.
Keeping in mind the diverse and incomprehensible flood heights, this design consist of 4 different blocks which have tendency to rise with water level. Every block have different height limits thus making evacuation possible from top and bottom respective of water level.
Bamboos and steel is being used which are locally available and light weight which helps house to rise. Use of local materials and techniques with passive cooling techniques making it a sustainable approach toward disaster resilience structures. Steel anchors keep the house on same spot and help it to move up and down. On lower side recycled plastic barrels are used which make the structure float and save people from disasters of flood.
